Who Is Blessed?

This is a poem that I memorized as a child to recite for performances with Children's Bible Hour.

I was a part of CBH from age 3 to almost 16.  I don't know exactly what age I was when I memorized this poem (and many other poems and scripture texts), but my guess is sometime between age 10 and 14.  The age that I was at the time doesn't really matter at this point.  What is more noteworthy, is that even now, as an adult, I still remember this poem well enough to retell it.  In a world that has been acting rather irrational and crazy in the past year especially, this is a very good lesson that more adults ought to remember and share with their children.  Please read it over.

The Thought at the bottom of this post is a my comment that I added in 2009 when I typed this up into a printed form for some purpose that I don't remember now.  But I still agree with that thought.  The poem itself is not my words, and unfortunately, I don't know who the author was.

I hope you enjoy this poem!  If you do, please share it! Thank You!

Blessed Indeed

Today upon a bus I saw a little girl with golden hair,
I envied her she seemed so happy, and oh I wished I were so fair.
When suddenly she rose to leave I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one foot and wore a crutch, but as she passed she had a smile.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I have two feet, the world is mine.

As I stopped to buy some sweets the man who served me had such charm.
He seemed to radiate good cheer, his manner was so kind and warm.
It’s nice to deal with you I said, such courtesy I seldom find.
He turned and said, “Oh thank you ma’am”, and then I saw that he was blind.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I have two eyes, the world is mine.

Then, while walking down the street I saw a little boy with eyes of blue,
He stood and watched while others played, it seemed he knew not what to do.
I watched a moment then I said, “Why don’t you join the others dear?”
He looked ahead without a word, and then I knew he could not hear.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I have two ears, the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I’d go; With eyes to see the sunset’s glow;
With ears to hear what I should know; Oh God, forgive me when I whine,
I’m Blessed Indeed, the world is mine!

THOUGHT:

It is NOT the lack of things, space, money, respect, justice or equality,
but instead an unhappy attitude and an unthankful heart
and countenance that truly makes one poor.

You should never feel inferior or compare your situation
with anyone whom you think has more than you.
Always remember
You are a child of The King and by Him you are Blessed Indeed!
Thankfulness and Happiness are attitude choices
that we should choose to wear every day.
